The year started off with publishing my novel Angel from the Rust. And from there I went headlong into writing the sequel. I finished the first draft and went to work on the second.
While the momentum was good at the start, I’ve really had to pull back from the next book and focus on responsibilities at home and teaching high school. But during the lull in writing, I came to an important realization about the next book: it was incomplete.
Something had been nagging me while I had been writing the first draft, and by stepping away, it dawned on me. A huge portion of the story was missing. What I had been writing wasn’t book two. It was book three.
So now I’m going back in time in the story–outlining and dreaming and filling in the missing pieces–and it’s shaping up pretty nicely. I know this means a delay in your getting the next book. But look at the bright side: when book two is finished, book three will come soon after.
I’m excited to share with you one day where Corvala and Exodus (and Vlaren) will go next!
What’s next?
I may have been in the writing doldrums this last year, but that doesn’t mean my creative gears stopped working. Over the past few months, I got into an exciting new project on a grand scale, and it’s been stretching me.
But as for what it is…I’ll save that for a later announcement.
