This is my 50th post on this blog. So I thought I would take a brief look at why I started this blog and what it has evolved into.
When I started building my website, I included a blog because that’s what all the authors were doing at the time. But what was I going to blog about? I really had no clue. So my blog consisted of the only things that I thought would fit with an author’s website: writing tips and the cultural impact of storytelling.
But over time I began to loosen up and take a broader understanding of what it meant to blog about the writer’s life. So I now do the occasional book review or show review. Also, I write about adventures I’ve had that have impacted my writing.
But why…?
I don’t post on my blog to accumulate followers. I post because I enjoy it. This wasn’t the case at first. But over time, I began to actually enjoy blogging. And the more I enjoy it, the easier the posts are to write.
My blog has become a place where I literally get to gather my thoughts. It’s kind of like a journal where I share the writer’s life. If I find something interesting, read a good book, or have a neat experience, I might want to “collect” it by posting about it.
Also, my blog provides a place to live for some of the content from my email newsletters. Lately, I’ve been working on being more consistent with my newsletters and creating interesting content to send to my mailing list twice “sometimes” a month. (I’m following the advice I learned in the book Newsletter Ninja by Tammi Labrecque.) But after an email is sent and forgotten, it seems a shame that the content I worked on gets forgotten too. So I shine it up a bit, repurpose it, and make it into a blog post.
So that, my dear reader, is why I post. And I hope you enjoy it!
*Cue the fireworks. Kaboom!*
