Music to Help You Write

Like a lot of writers, I like to listen to music while I write. Preferably instrumental music since lyrics can be distracting while writing. I also prefer my music playlists to be lengthy (over two hours).

What you’ll find below is a list of playlists I’ve been listening to lately.

11 hours of music.

More great songs than you can shake a stick at. (I guess if you’re a conductor, then you can shake a stick at a lot of great music.)

These playlists help me to get into the mood of writing (especially writing fantasy). They are primarily instrumental, and each list is contained in one video (so you won’t have to listen to ads between songs).

I hope you find this music as helpful as I do.

Enjoy!

Pandora Journey

This is a channel that creates epic and emotional music playlists. The music often comes from movie soundtracks. Fantasy/sci-fi art accompanies the music.

Horizon: Zero Dawn Soundtrack

The music has a unique/exotic sound–tribal mixed with electronic. It fits with the sci-fi version of Earth to which the game is set. The first three-quarters of the playlist creates a background ambiance. The last quarter, however, is intense music good for writing epic battles.

Mandalorian Soundtrack

Ludwig Göransson has created an iconic and unique sound for The Mandalorian, and yet the music fits with the spirit of the Star Wars universe.

(Check out my review of the show here.)

Do you listen to any music while you write? If so, what do you look for in writing music?
